The talented watchmaker ‘Roger Dubuis’ first launched his own ‘artelier’ or watch making workshop in the 1980’s with partner and fellow watchmaker ‘Carlos Dias’, Roger Dubuis had previously found acclaim developing complications for the Swiss luxury manufacturers ‘Patek Phillippe & Co.’
Roger Dubuis had spent 14 years developing complications for Patek Phillipe before joining with ‘Carlos Dias’ a fellow watch maker to launch their solo venture. Carlos Dias had spent many years as a designer for ‘Frank Muller’ a noted Swiss watchmaker known for his complicated timepieces before joining with Roger Dubuis to launch the Rober Dubuis range of luxury timepieces.
The Roger Dubuis brand has always been known for its exceptional range of products such as men's and women's watches with two or three hands, window or patented bi-retrograde calendar wristwatches, single-pusher chronographs with coaxial winding crowns, tourbillon wristwatches with a patented bi-retrograde perpetual calendar and many more features. Art, according to Roger Dubuis, is‘the expression of the harmony, purity, authenticity and nobleness of a great, age-long watch-making know-how.’
Roger Dubuis Watch Movement

Roger Dubuis Watch Movement
Roger Dubuis Luxury Watches
Roger Dubuis’s luxury watches are produced containing three main types of movement: non-complicated, complicated and highly complicated. Different kinds of movements move the hands of the watch differently, a movement within the field of watch making describes the mechanism that measures the passage of time.
The first type of movement used within Roger Dubuis’s Luxury watches is the non-complicated movement:
The non-complicated movements currently used by Roger Dubuis utilise either self winding mechanisms or automatic winding mechanisms powered by a micro rotor and are made up of between 132 and 170 separate pieces.
The complicated movements currently used by Roger Dubuis watches utilise either self winding mechanisms or automatic winding mechanisms and are constructed from between 262 and 387 individual unique parts.
The Highly complicated movements used within Roger Duluis’s luxury watches utilise either self winding mechanisms or automatic mechanisms depending upon the model and can contain over a thousand individual moving parts.
Roger Dubuis luxury watches gain their prestige by using distinct case shapes and artistic dials, and also by releasing them in collections often containing as few as twenty-eight pieces worldwide.
For example only 28 of the ‘GoldenSquare Perpetual Calendar’ model constructed from 18kt white gold and featuring an automatic winding movement and a white mother of pearl dial were released. And the ‘EasyDiver Tourbillon’ limited edition Roger Dubuis luxury wrist watch constructed using a stainless steel case, white gold bezel and silver dial was released in a limited edition of only 280 pieces.
The exceptional quality and exclusivity of a Roger Dubuis limited edition timepiece is reflected in the price. At the time of writing there are several Roger Dubuis watches for sale on eBay:
$11,995.00 will buy you a ‘Roger Dubuis Easy Diver Chronograph Carbon Fiber 46mm’ which uses the same Lemania base Chrono movement that is used in the Patek 5070. Roger Dubuis originally designed this movement while he was working with Patek for use exclusively in the Patek 5070 Chronograph.
$29,900.00 will get you a Roger Dubuis ‘M34 Flying Tourbillon in steel with black dial and white exploding Roman numerals’ and one of only 88 pieces made.
And for the bargain price of $54,200.00 you can adorn your wrist with the ‘Roger Dubuis GoldenSquare Tourbillon G40 02SQ 7 Limited Edition’, this stunning wrist watch features a 40mm titanium case, skeleton dial featuring blue roman numerals and a tourbillon at the seven o’clock position, the bridges of the movement are all hand engraved in white gold and the movement can be viewed through a sapphire crystal display back.
WAY interesting. Watches are complex mechanisms, we just didn't shrink down clock towers over night!
ReplyDeleteVery interesting hub, but sorry I don't have $54,000 in my teeny budget for a watch like that. It would be nice though.

ReplyDeleteI love the watches, but how waterproof are they? I'm looking into some luxury watches, and waterproofing is important to me. I wouldn't want to lose 12 grand because of a rainstorm.
