Voodoo Doll / UglyDoll
I was walking down a side street in Bangkok when I first found them, I’d spent the day buying up cheap jewelery, silver rings and belly bars to sell at local markets, when I passed a small stall set up by the side of the road selling these, I walked passed it at first, then doubled back, walked on again, and then doubled back once more, then went over to investigate.
I’ve no idea what they’re really called, which is why I call them ‘alternative fashion plush’ or ‘punk toys’ they’re similar to the now relatively famous ‘uglydolls’ they’re handmade odd looking alternative fashion style plush, and each one very unique.
I bought two and took them back to the hotel, had a few beers and sat looking at them, a few hours and a few more beers later I ventured back out to find the stall again. Later I returned to my hotel with a carrier bag full of these alternative fashion punk doll type things and again just sat looking at them, admiring each in turn.
Two weeks later I returned home, dragged my suitcase upstairs to my bedroom, sparked up the joint I’d left half smoked in my ashtray for my return, and opened my suitcase.
The lid practically exploded open and ‘alternative fashion voodoo doll punk thingymajigs’ flew out everywhere. At some point between first discovering these funky voodoo dolls and getting home I’d managed to acquire several thousand of them, I sat admiring them, having no idea what I was going to do with them, I guessed I would have to sell some eventually, but for now I had my own army of voodoo dolls, thousands of them, to do my every bidding, and I loved it.
