Marble Collecting – Rare Marbles and Antique Marbles for Collectors

Welcome to the world of marble collection, vintage, rare and antique marbles for collectors.

What is a marble?
A 'marble' is a small spherical toy usually made from glass, clay, or agate. These balls vary in size. Most commonly, they are about ½ inch (1.25 cm) across, but they may range from less than ¼ inch (0.635 cm) to over 3 inches (7.75 cm), while some art glass marbles for display purposes are over 12 inches (30 cm) wide. Marbles can be used for a variety of children's games, and are often collected, both for nostalgia and for their aesthetic colors.

Grand Universe Marbles
Created by artist ‘Gateson Recko’ the Grand Universe marbles are some of the most beautiful marbles I’ve ever come across. Gateson a former graffiti artist and photographer shifted direction to work in the glassblowing industry and then specialised in the area of flameworking.
After a visit to Taos in New Mexico where Gateson Recko was inspired by the isolation and crystal clear skies he began to incorporate the beauty of the universe into glass spheres, bringing about the creation of his much sought after rare and beautiful glass marbles. He created the first universe marble in 2002 which earned Gateson first prize in the Albuquerque Flameworking competition.
Gateson Recko now resides in Swedesboro, NJ, where his work continues to focus on his universe marbles and other space-themed works. Some say that through his dedication in the area of creating these rare marbles he has unlocked the limitless space held within a glass sphere.

Akro Agate Marbles
In the early 1900s Gilbert Marsh and George Rankin, two residents of Akron, Ohio set about producing glass marbles. After designing and creating their own marble producing machinery these two men began to mass produce their marbles. In 1911 Gilbert and George registered the trademark ‘Akro Agate’ which became one of the most famous marble producing companies ever. Akro Agate marbles became much in demand and the makers of these antique marbles produced them for over 40 years.
Akro Agate’s rare antique marbles are much prized these days and come in a variety of styles including: sparkers, oxbloods, corkscrews, moonies and more.

  6. what is the best way to know what kind of marbles you have ? I about 15 but know nothing about them. My brother had boxes that he won and I guess he out grew them so he hit them all away with a baseball bat. I'm sure my neighbors yards are full of them. The ones I have have been found in my yard over the years.

My brother is now 65 years old and probably wished he had not lost his marbles. Pun intended. LOL
