How Big is the Apple iPad?

You’ve probably heard of Apples new iPad referred to as an over-sized iPhone before, and with good reason, because essentially, that’s exactly what it is. But despite all of the initial criticism the Apple iPad received for just that reason, a jumbo sized iPhone is not necessarily a bad thing to own.

Of course it’s going to be a little less portable, and unless you have very big pockets, the iPad is not going to fit within them, which makes it a whole lot less convenient to carry about, but the iPad is still slightly smaller than the average (folded open) DVD case, and on a par with most netbooks in size.
How big is the iPad?

Height: 9.56 inches (242.8 mm)
Width: 7.47 inches (189.7 mm)
Depth: 0.5 inch (13.4 mm)
Weight: 1.5 pounds (.68 kg) Wi-Fi model; 1.6 pounds (.73 kg) Wi-Fi + 3G model
Which as stated above Makes the iPad approximately the same size as the average netbook, and in weight it is equal to a pint and a half of water. Meaning that while it won’t slip easily into the average pocket, it is easily tucked away inside the average handbag, man-bag, back-pack, or briefcase.  And it is light enough to be considered truly portable.
Should I Buy an iPad?

This of course first and foremost is going to depend upon your needs. The iPad is not an iPhone replacement and should not be thought of as such. If you’re looking for a device that you can not only make calls on but that you can also whip out at a moments notice to update your facebook or send a tweet then the iPhone is it, but if you’re looking for something that offers you all that you love about the iPhone but doesn’t leave you squinting at the screen, then the iPad is most likely it.
Meaning that the iPads weakness is also its strength, it might (at least currently) not offer much over and above the iPhone, but it does offer a magnificent screen resolution that makes it a genuine pleasure to use, a screen size that makes it far more practical for more prolonged use, and a battery life superior to any other Apple device.
