Possessing of animal-like senses, enhanced physical strength, self-healing capabilities that allow him to recover from any wound, a slowed-down ageing process that allows him to live long beyond a normal human life-time, and of course his most famous physical attribute, his retractable claws, Wolverine is the unstoppable powerhouse of a superhero, who has without doubt become one of the most loved and respected of all the characters within the Marvel universe. And while Wolverines claws were originally made from solid bone, due to his later involvement in the ‘Weapon X’ supersoldier program, Wolverines claws (along with his entire skeleton) are now coated in the near-indestructible metal known as ‘Adamantium’, which combined with his original super-human traits, makes Wolverine one of the most powerful superheros of all time.
Best known as a member of the X-Men, Wolverine, also played a key part within other superhero groups ‘The Avengers’ and the lesser-known ‘Alpha Flight’, but is perhaps at his best, when going it alone. Dark and brooding Wolverine made his debut within the pages of ‘The Incredible Hulk #181’, where he picks a fight with the Incredible Hulk, then fights alongside him briefly, before deciding to have another pop at the big green fella, just for sport, in a battle in which the Hulk gains the upper hand, but which ultimately ends in a stand-off.
Played by ‘Hugh Jackman’, in the recent big-budget Hollywood movies, Wolverine is both calculated, yet capable of lashing out like an enraged animal when confronted, making him a formidable enemy, a reliable ally, and a courageous leader, or to put it in his own words: "I'm the best there is at what I do, but what I do best isn't very nice".
