First released on June 15, 1989, 'Bleach' was the debut album released by a band that would arguably go on to become the most important band of the 90's, 'Nirvana'. Originally only selling 30,000 copies through the now world famous independent record label 'Sub Pop', Bleach was recorded at Reciprocal Recording Studios over a period of 30 hours (excluding several songs that were recorded in an earlier session in 1988), Bleach later went on (following Nevermind) to sell over 4 million copies (and counting), making Nirvana's Bleach album one of only two albums released by Sub Pop to have gone platinum.

Nirvana's Bleach Album and Me
I came late to the party with Nirvana, and first fell in love with them whilst listening to 'Lithium', a song from their later Nevermind album on the radio, sitting outside a caravan on a sunny day in Devon, UK. In fact it could be said that Nevermind and Lithium in particular changed my perception of music forever upon hearing it, quickly weening me off the pop music I'd enjoyed up until that point, and sending me spiraling down a path that would ultimately be about more than just music, but would include friendships made, love affairs obsessed over and lost, and attempts at making music to inspire others as Nirvana had inspired me myself.
And if Nevermind had blown down the doors and sparked the fires of a new interest in music within me, then Bleach with it's dirty low-fi sound when eventually discovered poured paraffin all over those flames, burning off my eye-brows. As my speakers threatened to explode under the rabid dirge that poured forth from them.
Who Played on Bleach? - The Line-Up
Kurt Cobain and Krist Novoselic were both in attendance, but in place of Dave Grohl (who came later) 'Chad Channing' played drums (except on 'Floyd the Barber', 'Paper Cuts', and 'Downer (featured on the CD release) which were recorded in an earlier session and featured 'Dale Crover' on drums.
Nirvana Bleach Track Listing:
Blew, Floyd the Barber, About a Girl, School, Love Buzz, Paper Cuts, Negative Creep, Scoff, Swap Meet, Mr. Moustache, Sifting, Big Cheese, and Downer.
Nirvana Bleach Vinyl - Limited Editions and Collectibles
Released just prior to the compact disc take-over as the primary medium of music distribution Nirvanas Bleach album was made available by various music houses in various countries in a wide array of highly collectible limited edition vinyl releases. The original Sub Pop white vinyl release of only 1000 copies is highly sought after, as is the white vinyl edition released by 'Tupelo Records' in the UK, limited to only 300 copies, and their dark green vinyl release limited to 2000 copies. In addition to which numerous other colored vinyl editions were released, including the semi-transparent red edition released by Sub Pop that I have in my own collection, and the numerous colored vinyl editions later released by 'Waterfront Records' in Australia.
