While, in terms of playability, I’m going to have to put my hand up here, and say that I’d take the Street Fighter series nine times out of ten over Mortal Kombat, Mortal Kombat (as well as being an awesome game to play) excels in an area that other player v’s player fighting games just can’t compete, and that’s in its overall visual appeal. Mortal Kombat looks amazing, has always looked amazing, and most likely always will. From its fantastical backdrops, its infamous awe-inspiring death moves, through to (the reason you’re here), the beautiful, and flawlessly stylised costumes that set Mortal Kombat apart from all of its competitors.
"FINISH HIM!"
First released in 1992 by Midway Games, Mortal Kombat uses digitised sprites in place of the cartoon-style animated characters of its rivals, which, combined with the blood and gore that has since earned it the title of the sixth ‘goriest’ video game series ever, made the game an instant success. And now, almost twenty years later (at time of writing), and with nine releases across multiple platforms, and with several (slightly dodgy) big-budget Hollywood movies to its name, Mortal Kombat remains one of the most popular player v’s player fighting video games series ever made. Standing proud alongside the likes of the hugely popular Street Fighter, and Tekken brands.

Set within a fictional universe consisting of six surviving realms, as created by the Eldar Gods, the Mortal Kombat series has spawned many memorable, and much-loved characters over its lifetime. From the original crew that included: Johnny Cage, Sonya Blade, Liu Kang, Raiden, and the ninjas Sub Zero, and Scorpion. Through to Baraka, and Nightwolf, from later game releases.
All of whom must either battle against, or support the likes of Emperor Shao Kahn, or some other ‘villain’, whose only desire is to destroy the inhabitants of the six realms, and keep the pieces for themselves.

Popular with gamers at Halloween, and with Cosplay enthusiasts year round, Mortal Kombat costumes are as varied, as they are stylish. And while some, like the costumes of Johnny Cage, and Liu Kang, could quite possibly be put together from items already found in your wardrobe, or from the wardrobes of friends, others, like the costumes of Raiden, and my own personal favorite, Reptile, would prove far more tricky to make yourself, to a standard that’s going to impress.
But luckily, if your favorite character is, like mine, one of those that likes to dress a little more extravagantly, and your dead set on being the best dressed warrior from the six realms at whatever event, holiday, or even just for playing around at home in, this year. We have ebay to the rescue. Because while my own sewing skills are somewhat limited, for a reasonable price, someone, somewhere out there in the world of the wide web, is able to make you the best professional looking Mortal Kombat costume that money can buy. Leaving you plenty of free time to practise your killer moves. And perhaps most importantly, your fatalities. :p
